Jack White has paid the Detroit Masonic Temple's tax bill, saving the venue from foreclosure.
White has been identified as the anonymous donor who paid $142,000 that the temple owed in back taxes to the IRS, according to the Detroit Free Press. As a result, the historic music venue will remain open.
Roger Sobran, the president of the Detroit Masonic Temple Association, noted: "Jack's donation could not have come at a better time and we are eternally grateful to him for it. Jack's magnanimous generosity and unflinching loyalty to this historic building and his Detroit roots is appreciated beyond words."
Sobran added that one of the venue's two theaters would be renamed the Jack White Theater.
White has played the venue several times and has spoken about his attachment to the building, which he attended as a small child while his mother worked there as an usher.
