Croatia Annual Inflation Eases Sharply In May

Croatia's consumer price inflation weakened significantly in May, data released by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics showed Friday.

The consumer price index increased 1.6 percent year-on-year in May, notably slower than April's 3.3 percent gain. In March, the index had moved up 3.7 percent.

Food prices rose 6.5 percent from a year earlier, and housing costs and utility prices moved up 1.1 percent. There was a 4.1 percent fall in transportation costs, and a 4.4 percent decrease in Clothing and footwear expenses.

Sequentially, the consumer price index stayed unchanged in May, after recording a 0.4 percent gain in the previous month, The agency said.
