Kabel Deutschland Holding AG, Germany's largest cable operator, confirmed Monday that it has received a preliminary proposal from Liberty Global plc (LBTYA).

There is no certainty that any deal with Liberty Global plc will ultimately materialise from the proposal, nor as to the terms of such a deal, Kabel Deutschland said in a statement.

Earlier Monday, the Financial Times reported that Liberty Global has put forward a 7.5 billion euro bid for Kabel Deutschland. Citing people familiar with the talks, the paper said Liberty had recently tabled an indicative offer to Kabel Deutschland worth about 85 euro per share.

Liberty Global, which earlier this month completed the acquisition of Virgin Media Inc. in a stock and cash deal valued at about $24 billion, will now probably join Vodafone Group PLC (VOD.L,VOD) in a bidding race for Kabel Deutschland.

On June 12, Kabel Deutschland confirmed that it had received a preliminary approach by Vodafone regarding a possible offer for the company.
