Palestinians Killed In Israeli Raid On West Bank Refugee Camp

Three young Palestinians were killed and 19 others wounded in a pre-dawn raid on Monday by Israeli soldiers on a refugee camp north of Jerusalem in the West Bank after a riot broke out there, reports quoting Palestinian medical sources said.

The riot was triggered when Border Police officers in armored vehicles stormed the Kalandiya refugee camp at about 05:00 a.m. to arrest a suspected terrorist.

The Israeli Defense Force (IDF) said the police, when confronted by about 1,500 Palestinians throwing rocks and petrol bombs, used "riot dispersal methods," but did not confirm the reported use of live fire and tear gas in the clashes. Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said the incident will be investigated.

It was the second such cross-border raid by Israeli forces inside the Palestinian territory in a week. A Palestinian teenager was killed by IDF in an arrest operation at a refugee camp in the West Bank city of Jenin last week.

The latest attack evoked condemnation by the Palestinian Authority.
