Saudi Arabia Pledges Lebanon $3B Grant To Strengthen Army

Saudi Arabia has pledged to give Lebanon $3 billion grant to improve and strengthen its armed forces.

Lebanese President Michel Sleiman made the announcement on Sunday on Lebanese national television, describing the grant as the largest aid ever to the country's armed forces.

Sleiman, addressing the country after the funeral of a senior Lebanese politician killed in a car bomb attack, said the grant would help the country to strengthen its army by buying modern weapons from France that will help fight terrorism.

"The king of the brotherly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is offering this generous and appreciated aid of $3 billion to the Lebanese army to strengthen its capabilities," Sleiman said in his speech.
