Mayo Clinic CEO Pushes For Healthcare Restructure

Dr. John Noseworthy, CEO for the Mayo Clinic said on Sunday that the healthcare system in the United States is in desperate need of being restructured - Medicare, in particular.

Appearing on NBC's "Meet the Press," Noseworthy said that President Barack Obama's Affordable Care Act was a credible first step in the process - but he added that it was very far from addressing all of the health industry's problems.

"The long-term sustainability of Medicare is something no one has taken on year," Noseworthy said.

The doctor cited telemedicine as one possible way of making medicine more cost-effective.

He added that another step in the right direction would be to fully fund the National Institute of Health, which saw its support slashed last year by the sequester cuts.
