Exposure To Light Could Promote Lower BMI

Exposure to bright light early in the morning may help enable weight loss, according to a new study from researchers at Northwestern University. For the study the researchers gave 54 volunteers wrist monitors that measured their exposure to light.

They found that those who were exposed to light measuring at least 500 lux within two hours of waking were more likely to have a lower BMI than those who enjoy less sun and take it later in the day:

"Light is a powerful biological signal and appropriate timing, intensity and duration of exposure may represent a potentially modifiable risk factor for the prevention and management of obesity in modern societies," the researchers explained.
