Fan Uncovers History Of Kurt Cobain's Famed Guitar

A Nirvana fan has suggested that Kurt Cobain's legendary left-handed Fender Jaguar guitar was previously owned by a former member of Cliff Richard's touring band.

The discovery was revealed on a guitar chat board, where a fan claimed to have spotted the one-of-a-kind guitar being played by Richard's guitarist Martin Jenner in a video from 1981.

The guitar is not only a rare lefty model but had also been heavily modified, making it considerably more recognizable than other vintage guitars of the era.

NME spoke with Cobain's former guitar tech Ernie Bailey about the instrument:

"I think he just liked the lines of the Jaguar, and I think he just liked the whole California surf thing and the history that went along with Fender guitars. To me that's the greatest mystery. It had a flight case. And you're talking about a guitar that at the time was probably worth maybe $300. So someone had commissioned really extensive modifications on it and then paid for a flight case for it."
