Latvia September Trade Gap Widens

Latvia's merchandise trade deficit for September widened from the same month last year as imports grew and exports declined, figures from the Central Statistical Bureau showed Tuesday.

The trade deficit increased to EUR 224.2 million from EUR 194 million in the same month a year ago. Exports decreased 0.3 percent annually, while imports rose 2.5 percent.

The trade gap also worsened from August's EUR 177 million. Shipments grew 12.7 percent and imports rose 15.2 percent.

Figures from the statistical agency showed yesterday that the consumer price inflation slowed to 0.7 percent in October from 1 percent in September. Prices were flat on the previous month when there was a a 0.5 percent gain.
