The unemployment rate in Italy rose more than expected to reach a record high in November, figures from the statistical office Istat showed Wednesday.
The jobless rate rose to 13.4 percent in November from 13.3 percent in October. Economists had expected the rate to remain at 13.3 percent.
The total number of unemployed people increased by 40,000 over the previous month to 3.46 million.
The jobless rate among the youth, aged between 15 and 24, climbed by 0.6 percentage points over the previous month to 43.9 percent in November, also logging a record high.
