A search has been launched for a dog that was placed aboard a wrong WestJet flight and ended up in Hamilton.
The labradoodle named Cooper was mistakenly put on a flight to Hamilton and got off its leash in the Ontario city after it was taken out of its kennel by airline staff for a walk.
On being informed by WestJet about Cooper being put on a wrong flight, the dog's owner Terri Pitman has flown to Hamilton and is searching desperately for her pet since Thursday.
Cooper was supposed to be put on a flight from Halifax to Deer Lake, N.L., on Wednesday to stay with Pitman's parents, while Pittman and her roommate planned to travel to Jamaica for a wedding. Instead, the dog ended up on a flight to Hamilton.
WestJet said it was doing everything possible to find the dog, including engaging its staff in the ground search and putting up posters.
The airline, which has apologized for the incident, has covered the flights, hotel stays and meals for Pittman and her roommate to stay in Hamilton for the search.
"The safety and care of pets, whether they are traveling as cargo or as carry-on, is always a top priority for WestJet, and we sincerely apologize to the pet's owner for what has occurred," WestJet spokesperson Lauren Stewart said.
