Universal Forest Products Earnings Advance In Q1

Universal Forest Products (UFPI) announced a profit for its first quarter that increased from the same period last year.

The company's bottom line came in at $32.83 million, or $0.53 per share. This compares with $21.06 million, or $0.34 per share, in last year's first quarter.

Analysts had expected the company to earn $0.42 per share, according to figures compiled by Thomson Reuters. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

The company's revenue for the quarter rose 17.5% to $993.86 million from $846.13 million last year.
