Opera Unveils First Browser With Built-in Crypto Wallet

Opera has become the first major browser to carry a built-in crypto wallet, which will spare internet users the trouble of installing separate Dapp browsers or crypto wallet extensions.

The Norwegian browser maker said in a press release that the private beta version of the Opera browser for Android has been made available.

With Ethereum Web3 API integration, Opera expects to open up to Web 3.0 and make it an "interface to the decentralized web of tomorrow."

The new browser does not require users to create PIN or passwords as Opera depends on Android's secure system lock to sign transactions from the crypto wallet, the company said.

"Having a Crypto Wallet in the browser brings the cash experience to the world of online payments," said Charles Hamel, Product Lead of Opera Crypto.

"Paying with the Crypto Wallet is like sending digital cash straight from your phone, and we've just made it easier. This opens up new possibilities for merchants and content creators alike."

Opera hopes developers will be attracted to the new browser as the decentralized apps, or Dapps, for web3, created by them would be made mainstream and available to all users.

The Opera browser with cryptowallet has a default WebView on top and also supports tokens and digital collectibles, which are automatically presented to the user.

"By becoming the the first major browser to open up to Web 3.0, we would like to contribute to making the internet of the future more accessible," Hamel said.
