The Swiss Stock Market Climbed On Broad Strength

The Swiss stock market ended the first session of the new trading week with a substantial gain. Following the losses of the previous trading week, the market stage a broad recovery despite continued worries over international trade.

The Swiss Market Index increased by 0.99 percent Monday and finished at 8,930.24. The Swiss Leader Index climbed 0.82 percent and the Swiss Performance Index added 0.92 percent.

The index heavyweights all finished solidly in positive territory Monday. Novartis climbed 1.5 percent, Nestle gained 1.2 percent and Roche added 0.7 percent.

The insurance stocks also turned in a solid performance. Zurich Insurance advanced 1.5 percent, Swiss Life rose 1.3 percent and Swiss Re added 1 percent.

Credit Suisse finished higher by 0.7 percent and UBS gained 0.2 percent.

Luxury goods group Richemont advanced 1 percent after appointing group veteran Jerome Lambert as its chief executive. Swatch Group also climbed 0.7 percent.
