Altria Considering To Buy Stake In Aphria: Reports

Altria Group Inc. (MO), the maker of Marlboro cigarette, is reportedly in talks with Canada-based cannabis producer Aphria Inc. to buy a stake in the company.

Aphria stock rose 14% after the Globe and Mail reported, citing unidentified sources, that Altria has expressed an interest in acquiring a minority stake in the cannabis producer but talks could still fall through.

Altria and Aphria's leadership teams have met on several occasions, with the most recent talks on Monday, the Globe said.

Aphria shares closed Wednesday's trading at $15.30, up $1.89 or 14.13%, on the OTC.
