CAC 40 Down 74 Points On Global Rout

French stocks tumbled on Thursday to extend losses from the previous session as concerns over deteriorating global growth and rate hike worries sapped investors' appetite for risk.

The benchmark CAC 40 index was down 74 points or 1.41 percent at 5,133 in opening deals after losing 2.1 percent on Wednesday.

Ingenico shares bucked the weak trend to rise more than 10 percent after Natixis said it is exploring a merger of its payments business with the French financial and payments firm.

In economic releases, France's consumer price inflation eased in September, latest figures revealed, confirming the initial estimates.

The consumer price index rose 2.2 percent year-on-year following a 2.3 percent increase in August, the statistical office INSEE said.

On a month-on-month basis, the CPI dropped 0.2 percent after a 0.5 percent rebound in August.
