Snap And Twitter Posting Gains On Upgrades By Pivotal Research

Shares of Snapchat parent Snap Inc. (SNAP) and Twitter Inc. (TWTR) are seeing strength in afternoon trading on Friday, with the social media companies climbing by 4 percent and 1.1 percent, respectively.

Snap is climbing further off the record closing low set on Wednesday, while Twitter is bouncing further off the eight-month closing low set on Wednesday.

The strong gains come after Pivotal Research upgraded its rating on Snap to Buy from Hold and upgraded its rating on Twitter to hold from Sell.

Shares of Deutsche Telekom AG were losing around 2 percent in German trading after the telecom giant reported Thursday a net loss in its fourth quarter, compared to prior year's profit, despite increased revenues. Southwest Airlines Co. said it will investigate whether a dispute with its mechanics union was the cause of an "unprecedented number" of out-of-service aircraft that resulted in flight cancellations and flight delays. Southwest Airlines COO Mike Van de Ven said in a statement that the airline has been negotiating with Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association or AMFA for more than six years.
