Canadian Stocks Showing A Lack Of Direction In Morning Trading

Canadian stocks have shown a lack of direction over the course of morning trading on Friday after trending higher in recent sessions.

The benchmark S&P/TSX Composite Index recovered from an initial move to the downside and has recently been bouncing back and forth across the unchanged line. Currently, the index is up 18.54 points or 0.1 percent at 14,922.03.

The choppy trading on the day comes as traders express some uncertainty about the near-term outlook for the markets following the recent upward move.

Upward momentum has helped to limit profit taking despite concerns about the ongoing U.S. government shutdown and skepticism about a potential trade deal between the U.S. and China.

Most of the major sectors are showing only modest moves on the day, although substantial strength is visible among healthcare stocks.
