Maren Morris Discusses New Single, Upcoming All-Female Tour

Maren Morris has shared her though on her new song "Girl" in a couple of interviews.

"I was writing it as a letter to another girl who I felt had disrespected me and was constantly trying to be competitive with me when I just wanted to exist in my own space," Morris told Rolling Stone.

She added, "But as we kept writing it, I realized I'm not talking to someone else — I'm talking to myself."

When Billboard asked her why she wanted to kick off her new album with "Girl," Morris replied, "Me choosing 'Girl' as the first single, it's about transitioning from someone who felt like she didn't need anybody into someone who very much needs people, and is okay with admitting that. That really frightening vulnerability that I've been trying to avoid, I'm not doing that any longer".

In another interview, the country music star explained why she added Cassadee Pope and RaeLynn to a world tour in support of Girl.

"I just love them and support them, so I felt like I had to have them out on the Girl Tour," Morris told Taste of Country Nights' Sam Alex.

"It's basically an excuse to bring my friends out and hang out for months," she added. "I also know that RaeLynn and Cassadee both have new music coming out and new projects at the same time of our tour, so I think its just an amazing celebration of all of our new endeavors to the fans."
