South Africa Producer Price Inflation At 7-month Low

South Africa's producer price inflation eased sharply in December to the lowest level in seven months, figures from Statistics South Africa showed on Thursday.

Producer prices climbed 5.2 percent year-over-year in December, slower than the 6.8 percent rise in November.

That was the weakest producer price inflation since May, when prices had grown 4.6 percent.

The overall PPI Inflation was mainly driven by an 8.9 percent rise in prices of coke, petroleum, chemical, rubber and plastic products.

On a monthly basis, producer prices decreased 0.9 percent in December.

The average producer price inflation rose to 5.5 percent in 2018 from 4.8 percent in 2017.
