Blockchain Most Overrated Word Of The Year: Survey

"Blockchain" was the most overrated word of 2018, according to a recent media survey. Media Post's Research Intelligencer reached this conclusion on the basis of data collected by interviewing 120 marketers and 181 ad agency executives in January to find out what words or terms were given too much weight in the advertising industry last year. Blockchain consumed a disproportionate share of industry conversations in 2018, which may be one of the reasons it was also named the most overrated word of the year, said Media Post's editor in chief Joe Mandese.

South Korean Car Maker Hyundai's Finance Arm To Use Blockchain For Modernization

Hyundai Commercial, the finance arm of South Korean carmakers Hyundai and Kia Motors, is partnering technology giant IBM to apply blockchain technology to modernize its business model. The announcement was made during IBM Think 2019, IBM's annual conference focused on technology and business. Hyundai Commercial will use the cloud-based IBM Blockchain Platform, powered by The Linux Foundation's open source Hyperledger Fabric distributed ledger framework, to create a new supply chain financing ecosystem.

Bitmain Unveils Next Gen ASIC Chip For Mining Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash

China-based bitcoin mining giant Bitmain Technologies Limited announced the launch of its energy-efficient next generation 7 nanometer or nm ASIC chip for mining cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash. The mining hardware BM1397 is designed to bring a better mining experience and aims to set a new benchmark in ASIC chip technology. The new chip requires lower power and can offer an energy consumption to computing ratio as low as 30J/TH.

Oman's Bank Dhofar Joins RippleNet For Cross-border Transactions

Oman's Bank Dhofar is now among the first few financial institutions from the Middle East to join Ripple's enterprise blockchain network RippleNet to enable faster and secure real-time cross-border transactions for its clients. The bank aims to help non-resident Indian's (NRI's) living and working in the Sultanate of Oman to easily, cheaply and instantly send money back home to their families. The bank has already successfully performed an international transaction to India in less than two minutes.
