160 New Bitcoin ATMs Opened In February: Report

160 new Bitcoin ATM machines (BATM) were installed across the world last month, according to Coinatmradar.com. With 64 machines closing in the same period, a total of 4387 BATMS are currently operational.

The number of new machines continued to grow at a relatively stable rate, although a bit slower than in previous month, Coin ATM Radar said in its monthly report.

In February, General Bytes and Genesis Coin installed the most machines, 49 and 20 respectively.

These two firms continue to be the top BATM manufacturers. Lamassu followed at third place with 10 new installations. Other Manufacturers increased their numbers by less than 10 in February.

As usual, United States tops the countries list in February with 59 new installations. United Kingdom is at second place with 7 new machines, followed by Canada with 6 new installations.

Bahamas lost its only machine in February.

Bitcoin ATMs are installed in 77 countries in the world. Two thirds of them are concentrated in North America. Out of a total of 4,387 BATMs worldwide, 2472 - or 55 percent - are in the United States, and 633 in Canada.

There is also increase in cryptocurrency machines that support altcoins - from 2996 in January to 3095 in February.

The percentage of Bitcoin ATMs supporting other crypto currencies increased to 70.6 percent in February. Litecoin was the most added coin with 120 machines.

Coin ATM Radar data shows significant growth in the number of BATMS since 2017, when there were only less than 2000 Bitcoin ATMs in the world. And their number more than doubled in two years.

The majority of the world's machines are one-way devices - meaning they can only be used to buy cryptocurrencies, though markets seem to be seeking machines that allow users to sell.

The United States' first Bitcoin ATM machine was installed in a casino in Las Vegas in 2013.
