Seth Rogen Teams Up With Canopy Growth To Launch Houseplant Cannabis Brand

Canadian cannabis company Canopy Growth Corp. (CGC, WEED.TO) in partnership with actor Seth Rogen and his longtime friend as well as film collaborator Evan Goldberg, announced the official launch of Houseplant, a new brand of recreational Canadian cannabis.

Houseplant was founded by Rogen and Goldberg, with Golberg noting that the two co-founders spent five years diligently preparing for the launch of the company.

The announcement marks Canopy Growth's second celebrity deal in March. In early March, Canopy Growth and Sequential Brands Group, Inc. (SQBG) said that television show host and entrepreneur Martha Stewart has joined the company in an advisory role to assist with development of hemp-derived cannabidiol or CBD products for people and animals.

Rogen and Goldberg are well known for some of the comedy movies they have worked on together, including "Pineapple Express", "The Interview" and "Superbad".

Houseplant is owned in partnership with Canopy Growth and offers strains of dried flower cannabis, softgel capsules and pre-rolled joints across Canada. Canopy Growth said it has worked closely with Houseplant for almost two years.

"Commitment to cannabis quality begins with selecting the best genetics and doesn't stop until the customer opens the jar. Canopy Growth has witnessed how carefully Houseplant has chosen each component of their offering to deliver the highest quality product to Canadians," Canopy Growth said in a statement.

Under the terms of the partnership, Houseplant will utilize the production and distribution capabilities of Canopy Growth and its licensed subsidiaries to ensure that an ample supply of Houseplant flower, softgel and pre-rolled formats are rolled out in Canada over the coming months.

Canopy Growth will have a minority ownership in the new business venture to help Houseplant scale quickly and also support Houseplant's long-term success.

Houseplant said it will launch three strains in Canada over the coming months -Houseplant Sativa, Houseplant Hybrid and Houseplant Indica, each with an easily identifiable design.

The first strain, Houseplant Sativa, will be available for purchase in early April 2019 through provincially regulated retailers and online in British Columbia.

The Houseplant Hybrid and Houseplant Indica strains along with softgels and pre-rolled joints will follow throughout the year, and will soon be available across all of Canada.
