Ashanti Shares Last Text Messages From Nipsey Hussle

R&B star and actress Ashanti recently sat down for a chat with the hosts of "ET Live," in which she discussed new music and the tragic death of longtime friend and rapper Nipsey Hussle.

Hussle, who was shot multiple times in front of his clothing store in Los Angeles, passed away on March 31.

Ashanti admits that she is "still in disbelief" about the terrible incident and that the reality of it all only truly sunk in at the rapper's funeral earlier this month.

"Going to the funeral, I think it shocked me a little bit and it became a reality, seeing the casket on the stage. It was like everyone stood back like, 'This really happened,' and it just shows you that life is so short and so precious," Ashanti said.

"It's funny because I was looking at some of the last texts that we had, and I was recording at his studio and was like, 'Nip, I don't think I'm gong to make it tonight. I have allergies, I'm sneezing, I got a headache,'" she shared, speaking about one of the very last conversations she had with the late rapper.

"He was like, 'Oh I got these herbs that are really good for you! I know where you can get some good stuff!' And he was sending me links and like, 'Sis, I got you, you gotta try this.' And it just made me sad because he was such an amazing spirit."

The young singer also revealed that she is presently working on a new record.

"The sound is just so different, it's fresh, it's new," she said of the project. "I'm talking about topics that I haven't touched before...it's a little bit saucy."

When asked about the time-frame within which she hopes to release the album, Ashanti only admitted to the fact that she hopes "to make a really cool announcement in June, about something that is really, really, really dope, and obviously it involves music, so, I gotta leave it at that."
