Jackson Estate Co-Executor Calls 'Leaving Neverland' Story 'Made Up'

Co-executor of Michael Jackson Estate's John Branca has said he is considering suing Leaving Neverland director Dan Reed for telling a "made up" story.

"Those people made up a goddamn story because they wanted money and we will not allow that to go unchecked," Branca told Billboard after a talk at Harvard Law School.

This was the first time Branca spoke publicly about Leaving Neverland.

Branca and two other members of the Jackson estate's legal team, Howard Weitzman and Bryan Freedman, were key participants in a panel discussion, titled "Trial by Media: Guilty Until Proven Innocent," at Harvard's Institute of Politics in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

In response to Branca's comments, an HBO spokesperson said, "Dan Reed is a proven, award-winning filmmaker and we have full confidence in his film."

In the documentary, two men, Wade Robson and James Safechuck, alleged that they were sexually abused by Jackson when they were children.

Jackson's estate has denied the claims and filed a lawsuit against HBO over the documentary, seeking $100 million in damages.
