Folk rock icon Carly Simon has announced that she is penning an "intimate, vulnerable, and insightful portrait" of her longtime friend and former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

The two, who reportedly met at a Summer party in Martha's Vineyard, shared "an improbable but lasting friendship," says the official news release.

"Publicly, Jackie was important to all of us, but privately, out of the public eye, I loved her. I wanted to share my experience of her," said Simon.

"I found that writing about our time together was the only way to begin to know what she meant to me," she said of her pal, who passed away in 1994.

Titled Touched By The Sun, the new memoir is slated for release on October 22.
