Serena Williams Invests In Cryptocurrency Exchange Coinbase


Serena Williams, the world famous tennis player, revealed her investment in major cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase.

In an Instagram post, Williams said her investment business Serena Ventures has invested in over 30 companies including Coinbase. The investment fund, which started in 2014, focuses on early stage companies. It has invested in various startups in areas such as fitness, clothing, food and women's health and community.

"Serena Ventures invests in companies that embrace diverse leadership, individual empowerment, creativity and opportunity," she said in the social media post.

Serena Ventures' market cap of the portfolio is around $12 billion.

According to Forbes, Williams, with earnings of around $18.1 million, became the highest paid female athlete globally in 2018 for the third year in a row.

Williams has won four gold medals at the Olympics, and holds a world record 23 Grand Slam singles titles. She has also won 14 Grand Slam doubles titles alongside her sister Venus. She also holds interest in business and launched her own clothing line, Serena. In 2009, she had bought a stake in the Miami Dolphins alongside her sister.

Coinbase is reported to have raised a total of $546.6 million in funding over 8 rounds. Their latest funding was on December 21, 2018 from a Series F round.
