Sensex, Nifty Steady As US Tariff Hike Takes Effect

Indian shares held steady in early trade on Friday after closing lower in the past seven sessions.

The benchmark BSE Sensex was little changed at 37,558 while the broader Nifty index was marginally lower at 11,290.

Elsewhere, other Asian markets gave up early gains to turn lower as an increase in U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods kicked in at 12:01 a.m. ET.

SBI was rising half a percent ahead of its earnings announcement.

HCL Technologies tumbled 4.6 percent after its net income fell 1.7 percent in the fourth quarter.

Jet Airways climbed 4.4 percent as bidding for the temporarily grounded airline ends today.

Asian Paints dropped 1.4 percent after its Q4 profit missed Street estimates.

IOB shed 0.8 percent after narrowing its fourth-quarter net loss.

PNB Housing jumped 4.7 percent on reporting a 51 percent jump in quarterly net profit.
