Sensex, Nifty Marginally Lower In Early Trade

Indian shares opened flat to slightly lower on Tuesday, tracking sharp falls on Wall Street and in Asia as the trade war between China and the United States escalated.

Investors ignored government data showing that India's retail inflation remained well below the RBI's medium target in April.

The benchmark BSE Sensex was down 6 points at 37,084 while the broader Nifty index was down 7 points at 11,141.

Jet Airways slumped 7.8 percent as lenders reach out to unsolicited bidders for the grounded airline.

Karnataka Bank tumbled 5.3 percent despite posting record profit in the fourth quarter.

Vodafone Idea lost 4 percent despite narrowing its Q4 net loss.

DHFL edged down slightly after CRISIL downgraded rating of its commercial paper worth Rs 850 crore.

Sun Pharma jumped 4 percent after seeing a 20 percent sudden intraday plunge on Monday.
