RTL Group Q1 Revenue Up 7.2%; Affirms FY19 Outlook - Quick Facts

RTL Group (AUO.F) reported Thursday that its Group revenue for the first quarter rose 7.2 percent to 1.52 billion euros from 1.42 billion euros in the prior-year quarter, mainly driven by Fremantle and digital activities. Underlying revenue for the quarter also rose 7.2 percent.

Revenue from RTL Group's broadcasting operations declined 2.0 percent to 1.08 billion euros from 1.11 billion euros in the year-ago period, due to soft TV advertising markets in Germany, partly due to the Easter effect, the Netherlands and Belgium.

Content revenue, which represents Fremantle, grew 41.3 per cent to 383 million euros from 271 million euros a year ago, mainly driven by the delivery of American Gods and America's Got Talent: The Champions.

Total digital revenue for the quarter increased 15.8 percent to 220 million euros from 190 million euros last year.

RTL Group registered 1.15 million paying subscribers for its video-on-demand or VOD platforms in Germany and the Netherlands, up 59 per cent year on year. Fremantle continued to fuel its pipeline for drama productions with the upcoming launches of Beecham House, Baghdad Central and La Jauría.

Looking ahead, RTL Group confirmed its outlook for the full year 2019, given on March 13, 2019.

The company expects its total revenue for fiscal year 2019 to grow moderately, in a range of 2.5 percent to 5.0 per cent, excluding foreign exchange rate effects, driven by the Group's digital businesses and Fremantle.

The company expects its reported EBITA to decrease moderately, minus 2.5 percent to minus 5.0 percent, reflecting investments into the broadcasters' TV schedules and VOD services.
