U.S. District Court Judge George H. Wu denied a motion by Michael Jackson's estate to have its lawsuit against HBO decided in arbitration by the American Arbitration Association.

Jackson's estate and HBO are locked in a legal battle over Leaving Neverland, a documentary about sexual abuse allegations against the king of pop.

Leaving Neverland, directed by Dan Reed, follows two men, Wade Robson and James Safechuck, who allege that they were sexually abused by Jackson when they were children.

Jackson's estate has denied the claims and filed a lawsuit against HBO over the documentary about the king of pop, seeking $100 million in damages.

The federal judge denied motions to remand the case back to state court as well as compel arbitration, giving the premium cable network an early win in the legal battle.

Judge Wu called for both parties to bring in evidence on the issue of arbitration.
