Taylor Swift sent an open letter to Tennessee Republican Senator Lamar Alexander, urging him to support the Equality Act protecting LGBTQ+ people from discrimination.

"For American citizens to be denied jobs or housing based on who they love or how they identify, in my opinion, is un-American and cruel," Swift writes in the letter sent on Saturday, the first day of Pride Month.

She adds, "I know there are those who say this disrupts their religious freedom, but there are hundreds of Tennessee faith leaders who have recently (and very vocally) disagreed and spoken out to defend the LGBTQ community."

Swift shared the content of the letter on social media.

The letter mentions prominent businesses, including Amazon, Lyft, Nike and Warby Parker, who oppose Tennessee's anti-LGBTQ+ policies.
