Pharrell has released a new song, "Letter to My Godfather," paying tribute to legendary music executive Clarence Avant.
The song appears in a Netflix music documentary on the life and legacy of Avant, titled The Black Godfather.
The docufilm premiered on Netflix and in select theaters last week.
"Clarence Avant connects us all through his incredible impact since before I was born up until now. He's the godfather to so many of us - and not just African Americans, most of the industry," Pharrell said in a statement.
The song was co-written by the singer/producer and Chad Hugo.
"Music. Power. Respect. Clarence Avant used them to empower people of all colors to change the world," Netflix said.
Quoting President Barack Obama's remark about Avant, the video streaming service said, "Clarence is the bridge from a time when there was no opportunity to a time when doors began to open."
