Bitcoin Soars To Highest Level In More Than 17 Months

In a dramatic rise in price Wednesday, Bitcoin reached its highest level in more than 17 months, at $12861. This is a new 2019 high for the world's most popular cryptocurrency, and a price never seen since January 2018.

On June 26 last year, the cryptocurrency was at $6550.

Bitcoin price shot up by 13.52 percent, or $1,517, marking an unprecedented rise within a single day.

Consistent levels of trade volume, totaling $32.5 billion, have been reported during the last 24 hours.

At press time, Bitcoin is trading on Coinbase at $12853.

The virtual currency has been on a strong recovery path from its 2018 lows in recent months, and is 240 percent stronger now when compared to the start of the year.

Last week it made significant gains, crossing the $10000 and $11000 benchmarks within 24 hours.

In the last seven days, Bitcon jumped by more than 36 percent, or $3355. And it is nearly 43 percent, or $3791 higher from where it was valued 30 days ago.
