US World Cup Winning Captain Vows Not To Visit White House

America's world cup superstar Megan Rapinoe said neither she nor any of her world cup winning team mates will turn up for a White House reception in honor of the champions.

After a verbal spat with the striker weeks ago, Trump had extended invitation to Rapinoe and team to visit the White House in case they win the World Cup.

The US national soccer team retained the World Cup title beating Netherlands 2-0 in the final in Lyon, France, on Sunday.

It was a record fourth U.S. victory in the women's World Cup.

Rapinoe reignited the controversy in her remarks in an interview with CNN Tuesday.

"I would not go and every teammate that I've talked to explicitly about it would not go," the US team captain said at CNN's award-winning television talk show 'Anderson Cooper 360.'

"I don't think anyone on the team has any interest in lending the platform that we've worked so hard to build and the things that we fight for and the way that we live our life, I don't think we want that to be co-opted or corrupted by this administration," she told the show host Anderson Cooper.

When asked what message she would like to give Trump, Rapinoe replied, "Your message is excluding people. You're excluding me, you're excluding people that look like me, you're excluding people of color, you're excluding Americans that maybe support you."

Rapinoe, who won the golden boot for scoring most goals in the 2019 World Cup, took dig at Trump's "Make America Great Again" slogan.

"You're harking back to an era that was not great for everyone -it might have been great for a few people, and maybe America is great for a few people right now, but it's not great for enough Americans in this world."

"You have an incredible responsibility as the chief of this country to take care of every single person, and you need to do better for everyone," the 34-year old player added.
