Longtime Spoon bassist Rob Pope announced his retirement from the indie band on Instagram, saying wants to "spend more time with family and personal projects."

"It's been an absolute honor to share this experience with you. If you are lucky enough to see Spoon on the road this summer, buy 'em a few ice cream sandwiches for me," Pope continued, adding that he is equally grateful to the "road crew and management, many of whom became my lifelong friends."

Pope, who joined the band in 2006, will continue to work on solo projects and will remain an active member of the band The Get Up Kids.
