Sensex, Nifty Extend Gains For Third Day

Indian shares rose for the third day running on Wednesday after oil prices fell over 3 percent overnight amid the announcement of possible talks between the United States and Iran.

Weak global cues on renewed trade war concerns kept a lid on overall gains. The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex ended the session up 84.60 points or 0.22 percent at 39,215.64, while the broader NSE Nifty index gained 24.90 points or 0.21 percent to finish at 11,687.50.

SBI, Hindalco, UPL, Zee Entertainment Enterprises and Indiabulls Housing Finance climbed 2-3 percent in the Nifty pack.

Yes Bank slumped as much as 5.3 percent after rallying 14 percent the previous day on reports that four private equity players are set to infuse capital in the private sector lender.

ONGC, Maruti Suzuki, GAIL and Eicher Motors dropped 2-3 percent.

Global cues were tepid after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to impose tariffs on another $325 billion worth of Chinese goods, saying the U.S. still has a long way to go to conclude a trade deal with China.
