Woodstock 50 Future In Doubt After Losing Another Appeal

Woodstock 50 organizers have lost another appeal in their efforts to obtain a permit for a new venue, putting the future of the 50th anniversary festival in doubt.

Organizers had been seeking to move the festival to the Vernon Downs race track in Vernon, New York, but the town's planning board voted unanimously to uphold a previous denial of the permit application.

Following yet another setback, Woodstock 50 organizers said they were disappointed that Vernon has "passed up the opportunity to hold the historic 50th Anniversary Festival by denying our robust and thoughtful proposal."

"We regret that those in Vernon who supported Woodstock have been deprived of the once-in-a-lifetime chance to be part of the rebirth of a cultural peace movement that changed the world in 1969 and is what the world needs now," the organizers said in a statement.

"We want to thank the artists who stood by us," they added. "We are grateful for the support of Vernon Downs and its generous owner Jeffrey Gural."

The rejection of the appeal led production company Virgin Produced to pull out of its consulting role with respect to the company and the proposed festival.

"Woodstock will always be remembered as an iconic moment in history," said Virgin Produced CEO Jason Felts. "Despite our formidable effort to assist Michael Lang and the Woodstock 50 ownership in resurrecting their NY festival, it has become apparent that time has expired."

"It is imperative to us to produce an event at the highest level; in which all artists and consumers deserve," he added. "Without a venue and related permits secured, there is simply no time left to do so."

Woodstock 50 was originally planned for August 16 to 18 at Watkins Glen International racetrack but has faced continual setbacks, including losing its original venue, corporate financier Dentsu Aegis, and several production companies.

The planned lineup for the festival included headliners such as Jay-Z, Chance the Rapper, Imagine Dragons, The Killers, Miley Cyrus and Santana, among many others.
