First Ever U.S. Cannabis Café To Open In West Hollywood

The City of West Hollywood has approved the first-of-its-kind cannabis café within its city limits. This will be the first cannabis café in the U.S.

Dubbed "Lowell Farms; A Cannabis Café", the full-service outdoor rooftop restaurant will open in August at 1201 North La Brea Avenue. It will feature cannabis cuisine, along with a consumption area.

The West Hollywood Business License Commission approved the license for Lowell Café on Tuesday. The project is the brainchild of Sean Black and David Elias, co-founders of the Los Angeles-based cannabis company Lowell Herb Co.

According to the West Hollywood Business License Commission, Lowell Cafe will be extensively landscaped and will offer various locations for customers to relax and enjoy the café.

The business will be operated by renowned cannabis chef Andrea Drummer, along with Renee Nahum, Richard Brenner, and Brett Vapnek.

It will offer an on-site consumption area for the sales and consumption of cannabis by smoking, vaping and ingesting of edible products, located on the ground floor of the business.

In order to comply with the state regulation that cannabis consumption should not be visible from any public place or nonage-restricted areas, the consumption area will be enclosed by fencing and dense landscaping including fragrant plants.

An odor absorbing ventilation and exhaust system will be installed so that odor generated inside the business is not detected outside the property or lease area boundaries. The air filtration system will be similar to those used in casinos.

However, the café will be located directly across the street from the Kol Ami Congregation synagogue, which has expressed concerns about the cannabis restaurant.
