The Kinks' Ray Davies and brother Dave Davies are recording songs for a potential album, which is expected to release in October.

"This has really been going on for a couple of years," Dave told Rolling Stone. "We keep going backwards and listening to a lot of old stuff."

Some of the old recordings are very good, some others needs "a bit of work," while "some we recorded but never used," Dave said of things they found in the archive while trying to find tracks for a 50th anniversary of their landmark concept record, Arthur (Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire).

The brothers have recently been in the studio with original Kinks drummer Mick Avory to record new songs for the comeback album.

The work is almost over, according to Davies.

"It's a really, really interesting package that's going to have other songs from that time period like [my solo song] 'Hold My Hand.,'" he added.
