Pilgrim's Pride Q2 Profit Rises

Pilgrim's Pride Corp. (PPC) reported that its second-quarter net income attributable to the company rose to $170.07 million or $0.68 per share from $106.54 million or $0.43 per share in the prior year.

Adjusted earnings per share was $0.69 compared to $0.45 in the prior year.

Net sales were $2.843 billion, compared to $2.837 billion last year.

Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report earnings of $0.62 per share and revenues of $2.88 billion. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

A new study showed that foot traffic at Starbucks stores declined after the coffee giant changed to an 'open bathroom' policy. According to the study, store attendance per month at Starbuck stores declined 6.8 percent, relative to nearby restaurants and cafes, after the company made changes to its bathroom policy. In May 2018, Starbucks announced a new bathroom policy. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the first contact lens developed for slowing the progression of myopia or nearsightedness in children between the ages 8 and 12 years at the initiation of treatment. This could also help in ultimately reducing risk of developing other eye problems. The regulator granted approval for CooperVision Inc.'s MiSight contact lens. Amazon plans to more than double its corporate workforce in Las Vegas by creating 125 additional jobs in the city. The e-commerce giant recently opened a new 30,000 square foot office in Town Square in downtown Las Vegas and plans to expand its corporate workforce in the area to support its Human Resources division. Amazon also said it will donate $100,000 to two food bank partners.
