DRAM And H.E.R. Team Up On New Track 'The Lay Down'

Soulful ballad "The Lay Down," a collaboration between DRAM and H.E.R., premiered on Beats 1 on Wednesday.

The track also features contributions from the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Chad Smith, who handles the drums, and bassist Pino Palladino, while Ivan Neville of Dumpstaphunk played the keyboard.

In an introductory note ahead of the song's release, DRAM wrote about the current state of music in general.

"No one sings anymore. Ain't no true SANGERS out there!" DRAM said. "Nobody's taking it to the stage. No one's pouring their heart out, but that pattern stops here."

"Over the last 2 years, I've been working on my sophomore album while simultaneously going through the ups and downs of life in general. As a result of this, many of these experiences have been heavily reflected in my work moving forward," said the "Broccoli" artist.
