Randy Travis' upcoming The Music of Randy Travis tour will feature vocalist James Dupre as a special guest.

The announcement was made at a press conference at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville on Wednesday. Travis and his wife Mary were present for the occasion and Dupre covered Travis' 1986 hit "Diggin' Up Bones" alone on acoustic guitar

Dupre, who will be back with the band for the first time since 2013, will be performing several of Travis,' hits including "Forever and Ever, Amen" and "On the Other Hand," during the 12-city trek that commences on October 16 and runs through November 2.

"[The road] is definitely a place that Randy felt most at home with his fans, and that's what brings him so much joy," Mary Travis told reporters and industry professionals. "We're so honored that James Dupre will come and serve as a stand-in. He delivers his music with the same depth and devotion and demeanor as Randy does."

Terming the collaboration a "full-circle thing," she added, "We're looking forward to it. We want it to be a lot of fun. We want it to be a family affair. Our destination is the same, but our road is a little different getting there."

Dupre said, "The world was stripped of Randy's iconic voice and I think it's still important for people to go out and hear his music and see him. I'm honored to be the one to be able to be a part of that."

Randy Travis' ability to sing has been severely limited since he suffered a near-fatal stroke in 2013.
