American professional basketball team Sacramento Kings teamed up with blockchain startup Blockparty to launch NBA's first blockchain-driven reward program for the NBA's first predictive gaming app called "Call the Shot."

The program will be added to the "Call the Shot" app in time for the upcoming 2019-20 season. Fans can enroll free for the rewards program, which are non-transferable and have no monetary value. The rewards can only be redeemed for prizes and unique events, including signed merchandise and courtside tickets.

Kings, as they are commonly known as, are the first NBA team to implement a blockchain-powered reward program. This is also Blockparty's first partnership with a professional sports team that will enhance the teams fan engagement.

Blockparty is a blockchain platform for live event ticketing, fan engagement and tokenized gamification.

In the upcoming 2019-20 season, Blockparty will use blockchain technology to track Kings fans engagements and accumulate points in a virtual wallet within each fan's Sacramento Kings + Golden 1 Center app. Fans can then earn rewards based on these points.

The Sacramento Kings, one of the most tech-savvy ownership groups in the NBA, had partnered BitPay in 2014 to become the first sports team in the world to accept Bitcoin payments for match tickets and promotional products.

In July 2018, Sacramento Kings had become probably the first professional sports team to foray into cryptocurrency mining and use the funds for charity program "MiningForGood". They installed crypto-mining machines inside their arena.
