JPMorgan To Remove Barriers To Employment For People With Criminal Backgrounds

JPMorgan Chase & Co. (JPM), a global financial services firm, said it will help people with criminal backgrounds build in-demand skills and gain access to employment through the company's new public policy agenda, investments in communities and own hiring strategy. The company plans to proactively remove all questions about criminal backgrounds from job applications.

As part of the efforts to create economic opportunity for more people, JPMorgan has launched the JPMorgan Chase PolicyCenter which will focus on issues such as job skills and education, small business capital and growth, community and economic development, infrastructure, affordable housing and financial health.

JPMorgan Chase & Co. has appointed Heather Higginbottom as President of the PolicyCenter. She previously served in senior policy roles in United States government, including Deputy Secretary of State, Deputy Director of the White House Office of Management and Budget, and Deputy Director of the White House Domestic Policy Council.

A new study showed that foot traffic at Starbucks stores declined after the coffee giant changed to an 'open bathroom' policy. According to the study, store attendance per month at Starbuck stores declined 6.8 percent, relative to nearby restaurants and cafes, after the company made changes to its bathroom policy. In May 2018, Starbucks announced a new bathroom policy. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the first contact lens developed for slowing the progression of myopia or nearsightedness in children between the ages 8 and 12 years at the initiation of treatment. This could also help in ultimately reducing risk of developing other eye problems. The regulator granted approval for CooperVision Inc.'s MiSight contact lens. Amazon plans to more than double its corporate workforce in Las Vegas by creating 125 additional jobs in the city. The e-commerce giant recently opened a new 30,000 square foot office in Town Square in downtown Las Vegas and plans to expand its corporate workforce in the area to support its Human Resources division. Amazon also said it will donate $100,000 to two food bank partners.
