In an interview with Rolling Stone, Pete Townshend opened up about writing his first novel, titled, "The Age of Anxiety."

A decade go, The Who guitarist planned a new musical project, tentatively called "Floss," which never took off and evolved into his first novel.

"I didn't have a desire to write fiction. I wanted something that would allow me to go off in a number of different directions. It's a multi-stranded story that touches on a number of different things which I feel will help me to produce interesting projects that rise out of it," Townshend told Rolling Stone.

"Floss" was the working title, but Townsend said he changed it about halfway through.

The novel's story thread is woven around a rock star named Walter, who sells his band's music to Ford in a lucrative deal and leaves the industry.

"The Age of Anxiety," which is Townshend's third book, was released earlier this month.
