Halsey recently released a new song, "You Should Be Sad," and an accompanying video. The song is from her upcoming album, Manic, due out on January 17.

Halsey channels a few superstars in the video, including Lady Gaga, Shaina Twain, Carrie Underwood and Christina Aguilera.

"Xtina, Gaga, Carrie, and of course Shania, this was one loaded with nods to badass idols of mine," Halsey tweeted. "Had the vision to do a 'before he cheats' but instead about after he does haha."

In the song, Halsey looks back on her former mate and realizes that she can be both sad and glad to not be there anymore.

"I feel so sorry, I feel so sad/ I tried to help you, it just made you mad," she sings in the chorus.

The video, directed by Colin Tilley, sees Halsey, donning high fashion costumes and going through choreographed dance numbers in an underground country western nightclub, as she tries to get over her lost love.

"You're not half the man you think that you are/ And you can't fill the hole inside of you with money, drugs, and cars," she sings.

Halsey dons a suede, leopard print bra, pants and jacket with a hood in one scene, directly pointing to Shania's "That Don't Impress Me Much" video.

In another scene, she poses nearly nude with long, bleach blonde hair on top of a white horse. She explained this was a reference to Lady Gaga's character in American Horror Story: Hotel.

"It's me referencing Gaga who was referencing Bianca Jagger in AHS Hotel," she tweeted.

Underwood tweeted to Halsey, "Woah, to be put in such royal company. I can only pretend I'm that cool/beautiful/talented/strong. Thanks for the nod. Next time you're in Nashville, let's write!"

Earlier, upon getting appreciation from Twain, Halsey wrote, "omg I'm dead."

Halsey responded to a fan's question about her pivot to a more country-style sound, saying "The most petty and heartbreaking songs all come from country. I wrote YSBS on my living room floor on my guitar. Lots of time in Nashville too."
