South Korea Jobless Rate Increases In January

South Korea's unemployment rate rose in January, figures from Statistics Korea showed on Wednesday.

The jobless rate rose to a seasonally adjusted 4.0 percent in January from 3.7 percent in December. In the same month last year, the unemployment rate was 4.3 percent.

On an unadjusted basis, the unemployment rate increased to 4.1 percent in January from 3.4 percent in the prior month.

The number of unemployed increased to 1.153 million in January. The number of people in work rose 578,000 from last year to 26.8 million.
