Costco Says Special Hours For Members 60 And Older

Costco Wholesale Club is setting aside shopping hours for senior shoppers who are aged 60 years and older, amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The warehouse chain said in a Facebook post that beginning March 24, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, it will temporarily implement special operating hours for the senior shoppers from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.

While the pharmacy will also be open during this hour, the food court will maintain its normal operating schedule, Costco added.

The changes will apply to all Costco locations, except the Business Centers, which will remain open during regular business hours.

Other major retailers too have allocated select shopping hours for senior shoppers and other at-risk customers, as these groups could be more vulnerable to the coronavirus.

The dedicated shopping hours have enabled senior shoppers to purchase the items they need at the beginning of the day, helping them to avoid busier and more crowded shopping periods.

Last week, Walmart said it will reduce its operating hours and add special shopping hours for senior customers due to the COVID-19 crisis.

The retail giant said that from March 24 through April 28, its stores will host an hour-long senior shopping event on every Tuesday for customers aged 60 and older. The special shopping hours will start one hour before the store opens. Pharmacies and Vision Centers will also be open during this time, the company added.

From March 18, Target has reserved the first hour of shopping each Wednesday at stores nationwide for vulnerable guests, including the elderly and those with underlying health concerns.

Dollar General Corp. said in mid-March that it plans to dedicate the first hour of each shopping day solely to senior shoppers and also amend its store operating hours from March 17.
