Rock & Roll icon Little Richard died due to bone cancer on Saturday, May 9, in Tullahoma, Tennessee. He was 87 years old.

Little Richard is popular for several hits, including "Tutti Frutti," "Long Tall Sally," "Rip It Up," "Lucille" and "Good Golly Miss Molly".

"I heard Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis, and that was it," Elton John told Rolling Stone in 1973. "I didn't ever want to be anything else. I'm more of a Little Richard stylist than a Jerry Lee Lewis, I think. Jerry Lee is a very intricate piano player and very skillful, but Little Richard is more of a pounder."

Several musicians paid tribute to Little Richard, who used to call himself "the architect of rock n' roll."

Bob Dylan tweeted, "He was my shining star and guiding light back when I was only a little boy. His was the original spirit that moved me to do everything I would do."

"He was there at the beginning and showed us all how to rock and roll," The TheBeach Boys' Brian Wilson tweeted. "He was a such a great talent and will be missed. Little Richard's music will last forever."

"It is with a heavy heart that I ask for prayers for the family of my lifelong friend and fellow Rocker 'Little Richard,'" Jerry Lee Lewis said in a statement. "He will live on always in my heart with his amazing talent and his friendship! He was one of a kind and I will miss him dearly. God Bless his family and fans. Rest In Peace, my friend."
